World Food Safety Day celebrated in Kashmir | KNO

Srinagar, Jun 07 (KNO): The Drugs and Food Control Organization (DFCO) celebrated World Food Safety Day throughout the Valley while the main event was held at Government Degree College in Bemina, Srinagar. The event, as per the details gathered by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), was presided over by food safety officer, Additional District Development Commissioner, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, among others. Throughout the ceremony, the speakers emphasized the crucial importance of food safety. Deputy Commissioner of Food Safety Kashmir, Shagufta Jalal, discussed the risks associated with various foods and the collective responsibility of consumers and stakeholders in ensuring food safety. “World Food Safety Day is all about creating awareness among the people about food safety. The aim of today is to consume nutritious food which is good for our health,” she stated. Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, Yamin Nabi, added, “Safe food is a cornerstone of public health. We must be vigilant and proactive in our approach to food safety. Food safety starts from our kitchen to the public. Like maintaining hygiene in our kitchens, the same should be followed outside to remain healthy. We all are stakeholders, and it's a responsibility as being a retailer, distributor, or consumer.” Local attendees also expressed their views. A resident of Srinagar, Fatima, said, “It's reassuring to see our leaders take such a proactive stance on food safety. It reminds us to be cautious and make informed choices about what we eat.” “This event has highlighted the importance of community involvement in food safety. It's not just about the authorities but also about us, the consumers,” added Mohammad Yousuf, another local attendee. Meanwhile, a statement from the Food Safety Department Kashmir issued to KNO, reads, “Today the Drugs and Food Control Organization celebrated World Food Safety Day throughout the Kashmir Division, and the main function was held at GOVT Degree College Bemina Srinagar. “The function was chaired by Additional District Development Commissioner Srinagar and other dignitaries which included Deputy Commissioner Food Safety Kashmir, Chief Medical Officer Srinagar, Chief Education Officer, Principal of the College, and Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar,” reads the statement. “On this occasion, Dy. Commissioner Food Safety Kashmir, Shagufta Jalal, emphasized the importance of consuming safe food and the risks associated with different foods and the responsibility of consumers and all stakeholders to ensure the safety of the foods no matter whether the risk is low or high. The function culminated with the pledge to use wisdom while consuming foods,” it reads—(KNO)
